"Ya olduğun gibi görün, ya göründüğün gibi ol."
"Either appear as you are, or be as you appear."

A single sentence. And a lifetime of work inside it.

These words, beloved across the Turkish and Persian-speaking world and traditionally attributed to Mevlânâ Jalâluddîn Rûmî, ask for something deceptively simple: that the outer self and the inner self become one. No mask. No distance between what we show and what we are. In the Sufi path, this sincerity — ikhlâs — is the ground on which every other virtue stands. A heart that is honest with itself can begin to turn toward God. A heart divided cannot.

It is fitting, then, that the calligrapher has given these words a body. In this original work, the letters themselves become a whirling dervish — a semazen of the Mevlevi order, arms raised, skirt flaring in the turning of the sema. The upper figure is written in luminous blue, the right hand open to the heavens and the left turned toward the earth, as in the ceremony itself: receiving from above, giving to below. The flowing skirt is formed entirely of black script, dense with small marks and dots that seem to move with the turning. Only the tall sikke hat and the bare feet are drawn in simple line, letting the words carry everything else.

This original calligraphy work was written by Hattat Yunus Kerkuklu in the Hijri year 1446, in the flowing ta'lik style, on softly shimmering paper. It is signed and dated by the calligrapher beside the figure.

The piece is presented in a custom frame — a deeply carved dark moulding with antique silver highlights, a black mat, and a layered inner border in slate blue and white — under glass and ready to hang.

One of a kind. Not a print. Not a reproduction. The original work, exactly as it left the calligrapher's hands.
