The beginning of everything can be a single line.
In Arabic, the letter Alif (ا) stands as the first — a simple, upright form. Yet within Islamic thought, it carries far more than its place in the alphabet. It is often understood as a symbol of unity, pointing toward the oneness of Allah — a form that does not divide, but stands alone.
This piece is built on that idea.
At the center, the letter Alif is rendered in Arabic calligraphy, surrounded by a blooming rose tree. In Islamic and Ottoman artistic tradition, the rose is closely associated with Prophet Muhammad -peace be upon him-. Together, the composition forms a quiet relationship: unity at the center, love unfolding around it.
The leaves are finished with genuine 24K gold leaf, creating a soft, luminous effect that shifts with light. This is not surface decoration — it is a material that brings depth and presence to the work.
The artwork is painted on handmade paper with carefully burnt and sculpted edges, giving it an aged, organic character. It is presented in an ornate gold-toned baroque-style frame, completing the piece with balance and refinement.
Created by Aysel Toprak, a master of classical Turkish arts with over 30 years of experience, this is a one-of-a-kind original artwork — never reproduced.
It begins with a single line.
And unfolds into meaning.
